This Time Last Year

Every year, on almost this exact date, I write a post called “This Time, Last Year” where I reflected on where I currently was in my life and where I’d been the year before. I found the experience of writing it to be enjoyable, and it allowed me to reflect on things that I don’t normally reflect on.

While I’m mostly focused on reading and my reading habits, this post is just a general “how have things changed in the last year” post.

This Time Last Year I Was Reading: Queen of Shades by Eli Hinze

My full review can be found here

Synopsis:

A wanderer. An outcast. A Queen.

Against the customs of the land, Kigal is amongst the few still willing to bury the dead. It is a life that has left her wandering, without friend or home, but she spreads her message of justice for the deceased wherever she can. However, when targeted by those who loathe her, she narrowly escapes execution and tumbles into the Underworld.

There Kigal is met with the impossible: the souls of the dead proclaiming her as their goddess, fated to be Queen of the Underworld.

Hurled into a world beyond her imagining, clashing with seductive gods and bringing demons to heel, she must fight to bring justice to the forgotten dead. Yet as an ancient evil rises in the Land of the Living, Kigal must not only fight for the lives of those who sought her ruin, but for their very souls.

I’m Currently Reading: Nobody by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

There are people in this world who are Nobody. No one sees them. No one notices them. They live their lives under the radar, forgotten as soon as you turn away.

That’s why they make the perfect assassins.

The Institute finds these people when they’re young and takes them away for training. But an untrained Nobody is a threat to their organization. And threats must be eliminated.

Claire has been invisible her whole life, missed by the Institute’s monitoring. But now they’ve ID’ed her and have sent Nix to remove her. Yet the moment Nix lays eyes on her, he can’t make the hit. It’s as if Claire and Nix are the only people in the world for each other. And they are—because no one else can really see them.

This is the end of my very quick reflection on “this time last year”. I didn’t want to go over everything that’s changed, but I wanted to talk about the things that stood out to me as having changed the most.

What were you reading at this time last year? How have things changed for you in the last year?
